Sordid Lives – A Film Review

It’s been a long time since I’ve been as disappointed in a film as I was tonight. “Sordid Lives” features a lot of great actors but not a lot of great performances. It’s the story of a “white trash” family gathering for the funeral of the matriarch who died after tripping over her much younger lover’s prosthetic legs. I expected something a little more humorous after a logline like that. Instead, there was a whole lot of yelling and not a lot of action. The best part was the theme song sung by Olivia Newton-John who played a gum-smacking country singer and didn’t yell.

Perhaps this would have made a better play or perhaps the filming technique which seemed more amateurish or like one of the movies Elvira runs late at night was selected to make seem more “trashy.” I’m not sure. I am sure that this film could have been so much more. Sorry, I can’t recommend.
